This adventure is for students that have already completed the Druidawn® beginner's class. If your child has not done that please register for one of those sessions before registering for this adventure. Druidawn® is a cooperative, interactive role playing game that uses creative writing and problem solving to overcome obstacles in a group setting.

For those of you that follow Ian's Pokemon career, or those who haven't heard about this before, here is info about the world tournament which begins tomorrow. This will be streamed. They focus on the master division and kids (juniors/seniors) won't be streamed until the final day with the final top 2. One of the great things about watching stream is the commentators explaining what is happening.

For those not already Ian fans here is a great article about Ian's Pokemon journey from age 5. This year Ian finished ranked 2nd in the US and 7th in the world.

Pokemon changed our lives. We used it to help him with reading and math. We traveled to tournaments around the country and around the world and explored other places, history and cultures.
Pokemon can be just a fun game with friends, or a local league you attend weekly but it can also be highly competitive if that is the level you want to pursue.

Tomorrow is Day 1 of this year's Pokemon World tournament. 12 years ago it was in Hawaii and Ian won 2nd place as a junior. This year it is in Hawaii again and he has big hopes!

Ian has been there all week, hanging out with friends, doing touristy things, practicing and getting used to the time zone.

My belly just flip flopped with excitement for him!

This year the tournament style is set up differently.
Day 1 you must win 6 out of the 8 rounds to proceed to Day 2.
Ties won't help anyone in any way.

I have an answer that is SO much fun (yes, I love my job!). I get to play and laugh and say ridiculous things that encourage kids to WANT to write. Kids get to laugh and play and say RIDICULOUS things that lead to wanting to write!

What IS this magic?

It's called Druidawn. It is an RPG (role playing game) that is similar to one you would be familiar with, Dungeons and Dragons. Druidawn is like D&D BUT with a creative writing element.

My beginner class is ages 8-18, most kids are ages 9-12.

Some of my learners have RPG experience but most do not.

The beginner Druidawn class leads into a plethora of adventures.

Elves, dragons, magic, Druids, mythical creatures, bows with enchanted arrows, potions and fun!

Druidawn® is a cooperative, interactive role playing game that uses creative writing and problem solving to overcome obstacles in a group setting.

Pokemon!!

For those that aren't aware that I am a Pokémon MOM.... here's a moment of me putting on that proud mom hat!

My son, Ian Robb, has been a top Pokémon competitor for 13 years.  We lived and breathed Pokémon for most of his life.  

I love when I hear that kids are watching and rooting for him when he's on stream at a tournament.

One reason I love to talk about Ian's 13-year Pokémon success is to encourage parents to see that Pokémon (Ian plays the card game) can be much more than just a fun "kid's game". Ian has traveled the world playing this "kid's game". College was partly paid for from winning scholarship money from this "kid's game". And he is making a pretty great living right now by coaching players of this "kid's game" before he goes to grad school. If anyone wants to talk Pokémon, how it can be something more than just a fun game (great for learning math and reading skills!), I am happy to chat!
(FYI if your kid is into Pokémon VG - video game - I don't know a lot about that but I do know about tournaments so I am help with those questions too.)

North America International Championship (NAIC) is next weekend, the final IC of the season before Worlds in Hawaii. Ian is currently ranked 2nd in NA and 7th in the world. They talked a bit about Ian on the preview show today.
